Keep Everyone Busy in Stowe Outside

It’s easy to find things to keep everyone occupied, no matter what time of year you’re visiting our mountain community. Winter months bring snow and all the wonderful things that come with it, like snowboarding, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and ice skating. During the months when there isn’t any snow, there are still lots of things to do. Hiking and biking along all those same mountain trails, kayaking on calm area lakes and rushing rivers, or maybe a little paddleboard yoga to start your day off right.

The Stowe Recreational Path meanders through the area, starting at Topnotch Resort and ending in Stowe Village. This mostly level pathway is perfect for all manner of activities, from hiking, mountain biking and rollerblading in the warmer months to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing when there’s snow. You’ll trek through mountain meadows, over streams and a picturesque, covered bridge, all the time enjoying the surrounding alpine mountain scenery.

Depending on the season, you can enjoy rock climbing or ice climbing. Vermont has some spectacular waterfalls you can hike or drive to. Bingham Falls and Moss Glen Falls are just two of the scenic falls you can easily hike to.

Get a few holes in at the Stowe Golf Park, or the internationally recognized Smugglers’ Notch Disc Golf Center. Ice skate on an outdoor rink in the alpine-styled Stowe Mountain Resort, or skate inside at the Stowe Village indoor rink.

Not sure what to do? Just head to Mt. Mansfield for hiking trails and the Adventure Center with its zipline and more. Mt. Mansfield may be the centerpiece of skiing activities for the area, but it offers so much more.

Indoor Fun

Of course, any time of year is just right for a tour of Ben & Jerry’s or one of our local breweries. Everyone will love a guided tour and behind-the-scenes glimpse of Ben & Jerry’s, especially the sample room at the end of the tour!

Drop the kids off at the Apple Tree Learning Center for kid-friendly programs like indoor ice skating or horse-drawn sleigh rides and head off on your own program. Take a guided pub crawl or brewery tour and let someone else do the driving while you do all the tasting. Or do your own craft beer tour with a map from the Vermont Brewer’s Association. The Alchemist (a family run brewery specializing in fresh IPAs) and Idletyme Brewing Co (a great spot to meet friends and enjoy a meal as well as craft brews) are just two spots to try.

Tired of craft brew and wine tasting tours? How about a cheese tour? The Vermont Cheese Council has a great map of Vermont’s Cheese makers you can visit. Why not plan a visit to a local cheesemaker and support our local artisans? You’ve heard of Cabot Creamery, now’s the chance to learn about other award-winning Vermont cheesemakers like Jasper Hill Farm and Spring Brook Farms.

Or just do some shopping. Historic Stowe Village has some great specialty shops, where you can find 100% pure Vermont Syrup at the Stowe Maple Products store, hand-dipped chocolate delights at Laughing Moon Chocolates, and a visit to Ziemke Glassblowing Studio has glassblowing demonstrations as well as colorful glass ware for sale. And Stowe Cider offers unique, local cider varieties, and you can visit their production facility and tasting room just off Mountain Road.
