Escape from the City

Real life can be messy and loud, punctuated with angry traffic, picky bosses, and sirens and alarms going off at all hours of the day, so it should be of no surprise that many people’s vacation of choice is one spent in the peace, quiet, and tranquility of a country home. When your vacation travels bring you to Stowe, you’ll find your decision to escape from the city was the best one made this year as you explore breathtaking landscapes designed to soothe your frazzled mind and find fun things to do in Stowe, VT. Even better? Getting to know the more personal landscape of your Stowe Country Homes vacation escape! Our homes aren’t just comfortable and stylish; they are soothing and serene spaces you will never want to leave!

First There’s the Quiet

As you step out of your car, you will be pleased to notice what’s lacking. Here, there are no shrieking car alarms or traffic sounds. Instead, as the quiet envelops you, you will feel your tension falling away as your senses become heightened. The smells of the flowers planted in the yard, the sounds of the birds chirping, and the feel of the wind ruffling through your hair are something you never notice at home, which makes this escape even more special! Knowing that this is just the start of your time out from stress, it’s time to head inside and let the quiet, fun things to do in Stowe unfold. Warm, comfortable, and offering happy surprises around every corner, our homes will be your new happy place. Whether you are baking cookies in the fully equipped kitchens, watching the big game, or napping in front of a roaring fire on a chilly day, you will treasure each and every moment.

Fun Things to do in Stowe: Get Out and Play

The peace and quiet invites you to get out and explore further, and a visit to the Stowe Recreation Path offers more chances to enjoy the delightful charms of Mother Nature. This 5.3-mile-long paved path takes hikers, joggers, and bikers on a journey through some of the most beautiful scenery in Vermont. Wooden bridges covered in snow in the winter offer a scenic backdrop for engagement, wedding, or Christmas card photos, and even if you’ve visited before, the scenery is ever-changing, so you won’t have the same experience twice!

Hike to Moss Glen Falls. These gorgeous waterfalls are only a short distance away (about 30 minutes round trip) on this popular hike. Challenge yourself and your hiking buds with a trek up Mt. Mansfield, the tallest mountain in the state. The view from the top and along the way is worth the effort.

No matter the season, get outside and up on those mountains! Enjoy down-hill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, snow biking, ice climbing, and ice skating. Kayak or tube along rushing rivers, go rock climbing, mountain biking, fly fishing, or take a hot air balloon ride. Use a tour guide or just get out there on your own.

Indoor Fun Things to Do in Stowe

Pamper yourself with a day at one of the local spas. The Spa at Spruce Peak and Elements at the Spa at Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa offer facials, Swedish and deep tissue massages and exfoliations, fun treatments like a CBD massage, coffee body treatments, or beer treatments for your hair, cider scrubs, and maple sugar polishes for the rest of you, cupping treatments, and Ayurvedic treatments.

Take a tour! Would you like beer or ice cream? You don’t have to decide, get them both! Start your beer tour at The Alchemist Brewery & Visitor’s Center with their popular Focal Banger or Heady Topper. Grab the sampler at Idletyme Brewing Company for a great overview of their brews, then stay for a classic farm-to-table meal. You can get beer, bratwurst, and plenty of Alpine atmosphere at the von Trapp Brewery and Bierhall at the von Trapp Family Lodge. Take the brewery tour first, the hit the Bierhall for all the fresh lager, spätzle, schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerkraut you can handle. Don’t forget to leave room for the Linzertort!

What could be better than a tour of Ben & Jerry’s, especially knowing it ends with a tasting of the flavor of the day? Can’t make the tour? Pick up a few quarts of your favorite to take home and enjoy. Order ahead for easy curbside pick-up.

Ski buffs should head downtown to spend a few hours perusing exhibits on Vermont’s skiing history in the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum. This small museum is located in the newly renovated Old Town Hall, right in the heart of Stowe Village. Speaking of Stowe Village, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and beer pubs to visit in this quaint little town!

So Much More

These peaceful activities are just the start of what you can expect during your escape from the city to our scenic mountain town! Reserve your escape away from the city today and start collecting quiet memories to enjoy for years to come!
