Skip the tie, ditch the ‘Favorite Dad’ mug this year, and bring your dad up to Stowe for Father’s Day. When your dad is sitting out on the deck, cold brew in hand, looking out over a cool mountain lake or at the scenic Green Mountains, he’ll know he’s truly appreciated! Enjoy these Father’s Day ideas from Stowe Country Homes!
Get Him Outdoors
If your dad is an outdoors guy, there’s no end to the things he can do in Vermont in June. Hike or bike up and over mountain trails, practice his golf swing, kayak on cool mountain lakes, or shoot the rapids. It’s up to him, and it’s all here in Stowe.
Your dad will love Stowe if he’s a serious angler, or just likes to get out on the water. The Fly Rod Shop or Catamount Fishing can set your dad up with a refresher lesson (if needed) and guided fly fishing or spin fishing tours on the local rivers or nearby lakes. He can fish while wading, fish from the bank, a canoe or motorboat while hunting rainbow, brook, and brown trout.
Get your dad outside for a hike! There are trails of all lengths and difficulty all around Stowe, so there is sure to be one or two that are just perfect for your dad. Take a short hike to Moss Glen Falls, past beaver dams and rushing river rapids to pretty waterfalls. Enjoy the view when you take the gondola ride up to the top of the highest mountain in Vermont, Mt. Mansfield, and then hike back down. The trek up Pinnacle Peak starts with a walk through pretty green meadows and quickly becomes rockier and steeper as it winds upward, but the amazing view from the peak is worth the effort. The Stowe Recreation Path is an easy, scenic hike past lakes, a picturesque covered bridge, through meadows and forest, with restaurants and shops along the way. It’s great for mountain bikes too!
Let Him Watch the Game
Set your dad up in front of the living room’s flat-screen or let him lounge in bed. He’ll love having you keep his favorite snacks and beer stocked up while he watches the game. It’s going to be his choice, so he can watch one game or all the games, or his favorite action flicks that only he loves. Need something for Dad to munch on while he watches the game? A dozen or so Stowe Dough’s Maple Bacon doughnuts or Apple Fritters will do the trick! You can also pick up some handmade fudge, maple cookies, or Spreadable Horseradish Cheddar and crackers from the Stowe Mercantile Kitchen.
Brunch, Beer & Other Necessities
Start dad out right with a hearty breakfast before he heads out for a day of hiking, golf, or fishing. Get pancakes, French toast, and fresh squeezed orange juice at the Butler’s Pantry. Order sandwiches for breakfast or lunch and more ahead of time to pack for dad’s adventures from the Edelweiss Mountain Deli, Flannel, or The Butchery. You can also take advantage of our Guest Services. We offer Catering, Prepared Meal Services and Pre-Arrival Grocery Delivery. You’ll be able to warm things up or make dad’s favorite meals from scratch in your rental’s fully equipped kitchen. All you have to do is provide the ingredients and cooking skills.
Remember fondue? All that gooey warm, cheesy goodness? Swiss Fondue by Heinz has authentic Swiss fondue and more. Take dad out for the traditional cheese fondue or Swiss chocolate fondue.
If your dad is a craft beer aficionado, organize a virtual beer tasting with all his friends or set him up on his own beer tour of Stowe in person. Order the popular Focal Banger or the Heady Topper at The Alchemist Brewery & Visitor’s Center, a family-run brewery. Get the sampler at Idletyme Brewing Company for a great overview of their offerings and stay for a classic farm-to-table dinner. The von Trapp Brewery and Bierhall at the von Trapp Family Lodge has beer, bratwurst, and plenty of atmosphere. Dad might like to take the brewery tour first, then head to the Bierhall for fresh lagers, spätzle, schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerkraut—don’t forget the Linzertort!
