Throughout the entire state of Vermont, visitors will find craft beers in almost every town and village. In Stowe, one of the preferred gastropub of choice is Doc Ponds. It’s a no-frills, yet sophisticated spot where everyone over 21 can drink a craft beer and eat a well-prepared, unpretentious mountain meal. Upon arriving at the building, you will be greeted with the bar/restaurant’s logo of a mountain man wearing a pompom hat, the Adventureman as he is colloquially known.
Doc Ponds offers a wide range of beers on draft as well as by the bottle. Most of the draft beer comes from brewers in Vermont. However, many other northeastern states are represented such as Massachusetts and Delaware. The styles of beer vary from pilsners and porters to the popular IPA (Indian pale Ale) and APA (American Pale Ale), every palate is well-represented within the keg list. In fact, Doc Ponds always has an excellent rotating selection of APAs. These cousins to the India Pale Ale have a less-hoppy taste and usually a lower ABV (alcohol by volume) content which usually hovers around 5%. The selection of bottles and cans is even more extensive, with beers classified in different sections. The Monastic beers emphasize the Belgian tradition, Wild Style highlights Gose, Weisse and sour ales, and the Malt section focuses on this complex, nutty flavor popular around the world. In addition to superb suds, Doc Ponds also slings crafted cocktails and a curated selection of red, white and sparkling wines. The Stowe Country Home’s concierge favorite pick is the Chocolate Mudslide Milkshake!
