The snow melts, the sap starts running, and Stowe’s calendar picks back up. Spring here has its own lineup of Stowe, VT, events, distinct from ski season or summer. Here’s a look at what’s worth planning a trip around.

Why Spring Is a Unique Time to Visit Stowe

Late March through May is what locals call mud season, when the slopes wind down, and the trails aren’t quite dry enough for hiking yet. It also happens to be maple sugaring season, and one local sugarhouse throws open its doors right as the sap starts running.

Nebraska Knoll Sugar Farm is a family-run sugarhouse six miles from the village, tapping trees on the same hillside since 1980. Visitors can watch sap boil down in the evaporator room, sample syrup, and shop for maple products at sugarhouse prices, with a sugar-on-snow season opener each March.
